When we first walked through our house (almost exactly a YEAR ago now!!) one of the things that both B and I were super excited about was the master bedroom. I have to say that at the time it left a lot to be desired. We have done some work on it since then, but unfortunately it is one room that was really stumping me at the time. I have to apologize though, after we moved in I never bothered to take official “before” pictures so I am going to use the pictures we took on that actual walkthrough (which were taken on a cell phone so are pretty crappy quality) and from the real estate listing. Complete with the previous owners interesting furniture choices.
Like I said, lots to be desired, but I was still in love. L-O-V-E. First of all this bad boy is HUGE. You can’t tell from the pictures really but it is a whopping 16’ by 20’, HUGE! We had been living in a 11’ by 10’ room in my parents house previously, so the thought that our bedroom alone would be bigger than the entire living space we had been occupying for the last six months was amazing. Our apartment before that had a master that was a itsy bitsy 10’ by 10’. We were moving up in the world.
Oh and see that door right there. It is the mecca, a Walk. In. Closet. I die. You will probably never see the inside of that little area though because currently it is more “stuffed-to-the-brim-with-my-shit-while-hubby-gets-a-small- corner”, more than it is actual “walk-in”. Maybe one day organization will happen in there. Maybe.
But lets go back to that first picture again. There were things I hated about that room. Hate, hate, hated. Like almost every other room in the house the color of the walls were awful. Its not that the previous owners chose ugly colors, its more like they chose the wrong shade of a decent color. Like this green. The picture doesn’t do it justice. I actually like green, but this read more like mashed up peas mixed with toothpaste green. Not cute. Next was the decorating/layout dilemma. I’m no designer (obviously), but the slanted ceilings were throwing me off. And my husband already had visions of a king sized bed dancing in his head, so that was limiting me. Add in some big blank walls that I didn’t have any large fantastic artwork to hang on and my head was spinning a bit.
Lastly, the biggest thing I noticed smack in the middle of a July afternoon, it was HOT in there. The room is front facing and gets sun most of the day. And the house has no AC. (BTW what’s up with people in New England having something against central AC? Whenever I mention I need want it, I get stink eye. I just don’t get it.)
(I’m starting to get arrow happy over here, whoops)
So I had a few options, deal with the super heat and try not to drive my husband to choke me from my endless complaining of how hot I am, or fugly up the very front of the house every summer with a window until. And at the rate I was making decisions about this room in particular when we first moved in, it started to look like we would be living with the pukey green for a while. Ugh. Anyone else have a love/hate relationship with some of the rooms in your home?

Wow, that room has so much potential - I LOVE the slanted ceilings! And, I definitely know how you feel - we're moving in three weeks to a home that I LOVE but there are certain rooms (like the master bedroom, which has really awkward texturing and is painted a poop brown) that are going to need a looooot of work!
Wow, those dimensions are huge!! Can't wait to see what you end up doing with it! The king sized bed is one of the things that we are most looking forward to upgrading when we move.
